FEATURE ARTICLE: EMPOWERING LIVES OF DOMESTIC HELPERS WITH COMPASSION AND CARE

In the midst of our busy lives, it is important to remember the need for rest. God, in His infinite compassion, invites us to find rest—not just for ourselves and our household members, but also those who serve us (Deuteronomy 5:14). Inspired by His love, we are encouraged to extend kindness and understanding to Migrant Domestic Workers (MDWs), promoting their mental well-being and providing meaningful recreational activities, skill development, and empowerment opportunities.
*SowCare, in partnership with *HIA, public, private, and other community partners, is dedicated to providing holistic care for MDWs through the *ADEO movement, creating a supportive space where MDWs can enjoy their time off meaningfully and connect with others.
A key highlight last year was the inaugural ADEO Sports Friendly Match at Kranji Recreation Centre, thanks to the enthusiastic support of volunteers from the S-Word Evangelical Church Youth Fellowship. MDWs showcased their teamwork and sportsmanship, while having a wonderful time.
To celebrate last year's National Day and foster a sense of home and community, ADEO, in collaboration with partnering churches like CityLight Community Church and Grace Church, as well as business enterprises, organised a day-long event. Over 600 MDWs participated in heartwarming activities like a flea market, performances, awareness talk, games, food stalls, and a special cake-cutting ceremony.
These are just a few examples of the many initiatives ADEO is dedicated to supporting throughout 2024. With your help and the ongoing support of compassionate employers, ADEO can continue to host monthly gatherings, such as the book club launched in early 2024 to encourage good reading habits among MDWs.
Catherine, who has been working in Singapore for 11 years, shared her experience: “The difficult situation in the Philippines made me move here, despite feeling nervous. I feel truly blessed to be part of ADEO's activities. I am grateful for the friendships I’ve formed here and for my employer, who treats me like family."
If this mission resonates with you, we invite you to take a step forward in showing compassion and making a difference in the lives of MDWs. Together, we can bear fruit for God and create a more caring and supportive community for all.
